Final deep sea diver.

This deep sea diver has been fully modelled and texture now and is more or less completed for the mean time. I think there is little tweaks I can make here and there with the texturing, but overall I have learnt some new things during this little coursework project and I'm pretty happy with the result.
I think the course requires you to rig and animate this little guy at some point, so you will probably see him popping back up in the not too distant future.

Deep sea diver project.

My coursework requires me to create a deep sea diver from a concept provided. Here's where I am up to so far; I have just finished the modelling stage in about 5 or 6 hours. Next up is the mesh optimisation (The diver is currently a hefty 2900 polys!) and texturing stages. More updates on this to come!

Sea creature coursework.

One of the projects in the Train2Game: Art and Animation course has you creating a sea creature design, all the way from concept to a finished game-ready model in all of its lovely, characterful glory.
Long story short, I have decided to make a kind of mermaid, except instead of the bottom half being some kind of fish tail, I have gone with a seahorse tail. This is all accompanied by brown, silky seaweed hair and aquamarine-coloured anemone growth on the creature's torso and wrapping around her left arm. This is a little rough in the concepts, but I will have plenty of anemone photo reference when modelling and texturing.
Check out the planning and concepts I have so far. Actual modelling of my creation will be a little further in to the future, when it is required for the coursework.

An interview with Train2Game Radio.

A little while back I was interviewed for Train2Game Radio, speaking about things like what got me into gaming, how I'm finding the Train2Game Art and Animation course and other similar topics. It's kind of hard listening to your own voice, but for others interested in having a listen, here is the interview in all its glory.

Vertex paint.

I am currently learning about the Vertex Paint modifier, fiddling about with the settings etc. I don't know if it's just me, but I find it a little tricky getting good brush settings and making decent complete maps with Render to Texture from the vertex paint information. At the moment, it's just easier for me to use masks in Photoshop and paint on the UVW template. Here's a few pieces I created using vertex paint:

A little something.

Here's an animated GIF I have created for a Train2Game assignment. It's a little jumpy in places, but I not too worried about going back to refine it too much. It did give me a couple of hours of fun though.

Ocean floor scene.

This is a project that I'm currently working on. It's a Train2Game course exercise teaching some new techniques and a bit of simple environment creation; I will post more updates as I progress with it.

Basic set-up.
The temple ruins are then added.
Followed by scattered rocks to add more of a natural feel.
Diffuse texture [version #1]
Updated diffuse texture and noise modifier added.
Maybe the final version? AO and normal maps added.

Success. Now, onwards and upwards!

I received the results of my end of section one examination today *Drum roll* and I got 99/100 questions right! Now I have passed this exam I can proceed to section 2; time to learn some more advanced techniques and edge ever closer to my goal of breaking in to the video games industry! Much more work to come.

Section 1 examination.

Having taken my time learning parts A, B and C of Section 1 on the Art and Animation course, it has come to the time to take my end of section 1 examination, which allows you to move onto the next stage (Section 2, naturally).
So, I will be revising a lot over the rest of this week with the intention of being prepared to sit the test on Monday 17th October, depending on how I feel when that time arrives of course.
Wish me luck and I will post an update when I receive my examination results!

My 3d work from the beginning.

Here's a handful of my work that shows some progression from the very start of my 3d studies in January 2011 up until the present day. As you can see, I am still working hard on my UV mapping and texture work, hence not a lot of my models being complete just yet.
