Ocean floor scene.

This is a project that I'm currently working on. It's a Train2Game course exercise teaching some new techniques and a bit of simple environment creation; I will post more updates as I progress with it.

Basic set-up.
The temple ruins are then added.
Followed by scattered rocks to add more of a natural feel.
Diffuse texture [version #1]
Updated diffuse texture and noise modifier added.
Maybe the final version? AO and normal maps added.

Success. Now, onwards and upwards!

I received the results of my end of section one examination today *Drum roll* and I got 99/100 questions right! Now I have passed this exam I can proceed to section 2; time to learn some more advanced techniques and edge ever closer to my goal of breaking in to the video games industry! Much more work to come.

Blitz Games Studios Open Days 2012.

I found out about the open days that Blitz Games Studios are holding next March today. 3d artists are required to produce a model suitable for in-game use, supplying a jpeg of the final model and also an image of the texture map sheet. Applications are then narrowed down based on pure quality and also beginners potential, in order to sort out who gets a place at one of the open days, where attendees will get to spend a day at Blitz Games Studios asking industry veterans questions and watching the work take place.
Leading up to Christmas time I am going to be improving my modelling skills with the intention of submitting a creation before the January deadline date. This is one opportunity that I really do not want to miss!

Section 1 examination.

Having taken my time learning parts A, B and C of Section 1 on the Art and Animation course, it has come to the time to take my end of section 1 examination, which allows you to move onto the next stage (Section 2, naturally).
So, I will be revising a lot over the rest of this week with the intention of being prepared to sit the test on Monday 17th October, depending on how I feel when that time arrives of course.
Wish me luck and I will post an update when I receive my examination results!

My 3d work from the beginning.

Here's a handful of my work that shows some progression from the very start of my 3d studies in January 2011 up until the present day. As you can see, I am still working hard on my UV mapping and texture work, hence not a lot of my models being complete just yet.

The start of my career blog.

My name is Jamie Read, I am currently studying on the ‘Train2Game art and animation course’, learning how to create 3d models in Autodesk 3ds Max suitable for use in video games.
I began my course studies in January 2011, so I am still very new to the 3d world, I’m just constantly learning and striving to improve, slowly improving a little more as the days go by.
I really wish I had created this blog at the very beginning of my studies, but I guess you can’t go back in time, so instead this first post will have a brief run-down of my work progress from January up until now.
I will definitely be keeping this blog up throughout the rest of my course and beyond, so that it will give people a good insight to where I have start and the improvements I have made stage-by-stage to where I am in the present day.
Thanks for reading!
